The Owls Trust, Introducing Fflint

13th January 2013

Hi there Everyone!

Well, I’m getting hoots coming in that it’s snowing in various places – Glad I’m tucked up safe here with Ian and Lynette! Just to make you think about warmer things I thought I’d tell you about Fflint.

He’s a Vermiculated Eagle Owl which is hard to say and even harder to spell! His kind of owl comes from central Africa where they live in the forests. That’s perhaps why he has such big eyes! Big eyes can help you to see better when there’s not much light. Jenni says the word vermiculated means that there are lots of little worm-like shapes in the patterns on his feathers.

Fflint has a slight problem with the feathers on his left-wing but it doesn’t seem to bother him. He is a nice chap and I like talking to him in the evenings when we’re listening for the Evening Hoot.

Jenni sent me a message to say I’m not to worry about the snow at Llandudno as she and Bill have got everything sorted out so that all the owls will be fine.  I sent a message back to say she must keep me informed about things and to take some good photos if there is snow lying in the morning.

Hoots for now
