I have been hearing in the last few days about a Long-eared Owl that has come to spend the Winter in North Wales. He first came to Bardsey Island which is off the North West coast of Gwynedd. He had come all the way from Denmark because it was getting cold there and he wasn’t able to find enough food. He says that also the wood where he used to live has almost disappeared because a lot of the elm trees have died and have been cut down. He’ll probably go back to Denmark later when the Spring comes but he will have to find a new place to live.
Long-eared Owls are very shy so although he did come onto the mainland we don’t know where he has gone now. The last message I got was from a Tawny Owl near Pwllheli who said he had seen him and he seemed happy to stay here for a couple of months. He will probably have found a nice thick copse of trees near a farm where he can hide all day and then hunt in the fields at night. I hope I hear a bit more about him. I have asked all my friends to look out for him.
That Security Guard fellow I told you about has been spotted again. Still can’t tell much about him though.
I’ll have to organise some photography lessons for Mac!
